| | | DG About a week ago a large grass snake appeared, basking daily by my small garden pond, shortly after this my 2 goldfish disappeared!
Yesterday the snake shed its outer skin measued at 30".
But today no sign of the snake even though it has been another sunny day.
Does this mean that the snake has now gone and maybe I can now replace my goldfish? |

| | Re: DG It may return in the future- great to have a Grass Snake in the garden, if unfortunate for your fish. Perhaps leave it awhile, but if you've had a visit, there's a good chance you will get one again in the future!
Yesterday at one of my local patches a Grass Snake slithered across the path infront of me- first I'd seen there, though suspected they could be there! |

| | | Re: DG Welcome to WAB and sorry to hear about your goldfish, DG, but the snake is a cracker.
Shed skins are usually longer than the snake itself, in my experience.
I'd go along with aeshna5's advice and leave re-stocking for a while.
Do you have or had frogs in the pond? |

| | Re: DG Indeed very lucky to have a grass snake in your garden!
Amphibian and Reptile Conservation (ARC) Trust would be interested in your sightings. If you could give them your record through there sliding scales campaign they would be very grateful. ARC - Sliding Scales - Report a snake |

| | | Re: DG Yes we have newts and have had frogs, although the frog popuation has seemed to be less and quieter.
The skin frome the snake remeasured at 36".
Is this snake male or female?
Thanks |

| | | Re: Grass Snake Following the shedding of the outer skin 2 weeks ago no sign since of this snake, I guess it has gone back to the compost heap in the next garden ready to breed? | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
