| | | stalked by a toad :( hey lovely people, im new to this forum but had to join because im in desperate need of advice. I have a rather large toad stalking me. I have a genuine phobia of frogs, and recently i realised that includes toads.
Now, i wouldnt mind this toad under normal circumstances, ie if it stayed out of the way, that way i could ignore it, let it be etc. Problem is it sits on my doormat outside my front door. i open my door, and there he is, looking at me. It may sound amusing but i am literally trapped in my own house, it fills me with fear! I think its a popular spot as when i came home 3 nights ago there were two there and i couldnt get in my house.
Please help! i read that they are creatures of habit and visit same spots nightly, well i cant cope! so i considered asking someone to move it, but then i read that they like to return to their childhood pond to breed etc so im not sure what to do for the best. If i let it be how long will it be around for?
Again i know this may sound amusing but im just trying to do the right thing (i love animals despite being scared of some)
any advice greatly appreciated |

I've seen toads sitting under an outside light, catching the moths that are attracted to the light and fall down.
If this is the reason, switch off the light!

| | | Re: stalked by a toad :( Thanks for the advice jim but I don't use my outside light, let alone leave it on. There is a 'pond' behind my house (more of a swamp) and also my neighbours have a pond. I wonder if I got someone to move it next to one of these spots it may deter it from coming back?
If not, when do they hibernate?! Soon??!!! Lol

Why don't you try to get used to the toads? Have a look at their eyes. They have the most beautiful eyes of any living creature - all speckled and golden.

| | | Re: stalked by a toad :( Sorry to hear you're scared of them how about leaving them some slugs quite close on a regular basis and then they would probably stop hanging around your door and stay where the grub is I Love my toad, though he no doubt gets fed up with me lifting up the material by the pond to peek at him !!!! |

| | | Re: stalked by a toad :( I feel slightly better after reading they don't jump like frogs. Every night before it gets dark I psych myself up for some exposure therapy. Last night when I opened the door at 8.20pm it wasn't there, then when I opened it at 10pm, there it was! I did feel slightly less scared but I know I still couldn't walk past it.
God knows what ill do when I go out tomorrow night and have to come home in the dark, knowing its there.
Its gonna be a long summer!
Thanks again for the replies people

I had a toad living in a large plant pot which had a small conifer tree in it. Really gave me a fright when I first found it half way up the tree.
Check any planters you have outside the door, if any, if it has set up home in one perhaps you can move it away from the door bit by bit. |
