| | | Albino,Sick or Mating??? Newt Alert! Hi there,
imagine my surprise on my daily inspection of the pond to find this little fellow/lass!
Is he/she an albino or in his mating colours??? he/she was really really pale, with bright red gills.
There was an incident early this year when clearing some debris from the pond i spotted from the corner of my eye a bright silvery flash through the water...i thought at the time it might have been a small fish though couldn't think for the life of me how i could have acquired a fish in my wildlife pond...now i'm pretty sure this was the mystery flash...
So does any one out there have any answers????? I have uploaded two pics of the newt, but now cant find them or work out how to include them, D'oh!!!!...any help??? |

| | | Re: Albino,Sick or Mating??? Newt Alert! At the top of the page is a button 'Images'.
If you click that and then click the 'My Photos' button, your images will be there. If they aren't just re-upload them
I have uploaded images in the past but need to do them again as they seem to get lost somehow. Probably me but I blame the forum fairies! |

| | | Re: Albino,Sick or Mating??? Newt Alert! Its an albino neotenous newt, basically one which has not developed into an adult but has still grown. This usually happens in nutrient poor water its like an axolotl. |

Is it rare?

| | | Re: Albino,Sick or Mating??? Newt Alert! so best to leave him? her? in the pond where he/she is obviously doing very well?
nutrient poor? is that bad? good? the other newts/frogs/tadpoles all seem to look ok and develop normally...so....
we also have slow-worms, now if only I had a toad, my wildlife pond and garden would be complete!!! Aaaahhh! |
