| | | Age of Smooth Newts Found a male Smooth/Common Newt in my garden pond.Wondering if he has found his own way here or is one of a dozen or so newtpoles I introduced several years ago.

| | | Re: Age of Smooth Newts They can live for several years. Possibly those you introduced are now breeding + also possible others have found your pond on their own. Smooth Newts regualrly colonise new ponds as they did mine some years back. |

| | | Re: Age of Smooth Newts They are about 4cm long when a year old, and 5 or 6 cm long when 2 years old. By the time they are 3 they are full size and old enough to breed.
(Obviously these measurements are only approximate).
