Last year I had loads of frogspawn in my pond and nothing survived to adulthood thanks to my very healthy newt population. This year I had both frog and toad spawn in separate ponds and I've harvested a small amount and placed it in separate tanks outside to give it a chance of surviving to a later stage.
The frogspawn began to hatch a few days ago and I have put plantfood in there for the emerging tadpoles. They are growing well but have yet to move away from the egg sacs and are still congregated in a large clump at the top of the sac. Do they actually eat this or will I need to remove it from the tank? I'm using pondwater in the tank and refreshing the top layer as necessary with rainwater collecting in nearby buckets. I've also removed a small amount of algae from the pond havng read that they will eat this. At what stage should I add a more meat-based diet?
