| | Frog in pond! I woke up early this morning to have a peek in my pond and saw one very large rotund frog staring back at me this is the first time this year I have spotted any frogs, am I right in assuming this is a female? she looks ripe with eggs so would I be right in thinking she is waiting for a male to come along? I always thought the males claim the pond first and then call the females in? the pond is not very big about a metre square and a metre deep with a little pond weed, a lily basket plus plenty of algae and rocks surrounding it it's only been in place for about 5 months. |

| | | Re: Frog in pond! I am very new to the frog/spawning as I only built my pond last year. I do know how exciting it is (and only people who feel the same understand! )
to find the frogs, toads and all the other beautiful creatures that visit the home we have created for them.
I have frogs, no spawn - plenty of newts, which I wasn't expecting, they are lovely.
So, just sharing your excitement with you! |

| | | Re: Frog in pond! Males have a white chin and croak (open the window and listen at night), and females tend to be a reddy/ yellowy colour at breeding time.
I hope you get some spawn. Which part of the country are you in? I am in Tyne & Wear and I got my first spawn yesterday. |
