| | | Frogs. urgent info required please I have a deep fibreglass pond with straight sides in the garden. I was in the process of emptying it to move it as it had been seated to high, when I found a frog swimming around, but as I got to near the bottom I found that I had about 18 frogs swimming around. It is far to deep for them to get out unaided so for tonight I have placed some large stones in the bottom so that they have an island to sit on. Ive not a clue what to do next can anyone advise please? |

| | | Re: Frogs. urgent info required please I am no expert, but until one of the more knowledgeable guys/girls comes along, perhaps you could try and make a ramp using a piece of wood for a temporary solution. As a more permanent one then a gravel type slope or stones at the edge might work. I have also put some overhanging plants at the edges of my pond so that little newts etc can climb onto them to get out. |

| | | Re: Frogs. urgent info required please hello
we used to have a sunken bath tub in the garden & always had a plank angled down into the water to allow creatures to escape,it would be easy enough to net the frogs then have somthing similar fitted in the future
hope this helps |

| | | Re: Frogs. now most urgent info required please thanks for your quick comeback. When the pond is in situ everything can get in and out with ease. What the problem is at the moment is, should I fish all the frogs out and what should I do with them if I do, or would it be ok to leave them in the bottom until next week. The pond is very deep and Ive not got a plank wide enough or long enough to make a ramp, and if I did Im sure its to far to the top. To me this is urgent as I dont wish to come back on Monday and find them dead. Refilling is not an option or I would not of emptied the pond if I had known they were in the bottom. |

| | | Re: Frogs. urgent info required please Can you make a big enough pile of stones towards the edge of the pond and then they can get in an out?
If you move them out and any water is left in the pond, they may come back in. It is possible that even if you take the frogs out and empty the pond, they may jump back in because they are used to it being there.
I don't worry about them dying. Even though it is warming up I reckon they could survive a few days without food and they can breathe under water.

| | | Re: Frogs. urgent info required please It's surprising how high frogs can jump. I found one in a watering can which was a third full with only a small entrance hole, and another in my mop bucket which I had left outside the back door! The pond is at the bottom of the garden, nearly 100 ft away. Your plank ramp will suffice. You could put a few bowls of water around.

| | | Re: Frogs. urgent info required please Thank you for all your replys. I have a friend with a wildlife pond so have collected up all the solo frogs and a bucket of spawn and taken them over there.
I didnt have a plank long enough and could not stand seeing them leeping up the sides.
I have left my mum fishing out any that are left and looking distrested. |

| | | Re: Frogs. urgent info required please I am hoping to get it out and the ground leveled in the next two weeks. Its big and heavy so I have to wait for help.
The pond has a planting tray around the edge and it is now brimming with frog spawn so I will have to start again and find another home for them. All the wildlife ponds around here have ducks as we have a large duck shoot nearby. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
