| | | frog! well we built our small city pond in november just been out with the torch and seen a very fat frog. When she saw the light she swam down to the deep section. Would this be a female and as it was very fat was she pregnant and ready to spawn? Very excited x |

| | | Re: frog! Without a photo couldnt say 100% without seeing it, however females are larger (fatter) than males, which tend to be quite small and slim. So I would guess this is a female and yes if you have any males around (which you will ) then expect some spawn. |

| | | Re: frog! how fab. Yes was very fat! Do you they mate overnight then as never see any evidence of pond life in the day and what with frequent frosts the water is dull so cannot see much x |

| | | Re: frog! Yes it was probably a female wad it a lighter green as male are usually darker than females at breeding time. I am in the same position as you I have a new pond and have about 10 male frogs and one pair of breeding frogs(have been copulating since last Saturday ) but I wondered if there would be more females around I haven't seen any but the female male ratio can't be 10:1 can it?? |
