| | | Re: Toads 2010 well i only have 2 small male toads left now and 1 of them is in a ''threesome '' with a pair of frogs ...been like that for 2 or 3 days now the collection of toads , i sort of borrowed!!! from my neibour before they went under her fence nearly a week ago have all dissapeared ....and of all the 25 pairs of frogs only 2 pairs remain and have not spawned... anyway will keep my fingers firmly crossed that a big fat female will get fed up with next doors pond and all the ''HUMUNGUS '' amounts of frog spawn and crawl back to me where she will get the welcome of a lifetime!!! | | | Re: Toads 2010 Checked my local ponds again tonight, five days after the last time, and what a difference! There's a party going on down there!
Not as clear as Deer Stalker's great pics but there is frog spawn in the pond as well...
Lots of reflections off the water surface (mental note: get a polarizing filter for the macro lens) but there were a couple in the shade of an old wooden post. Notice how the spawn has been wrapped round and round the post...
Here's a couple of shots of one out of the water...
Anyway, I now have a small section of toadspawn so as long as it's been fertilised I'll be okay for my toadpole photography project.

| | | Re: Toads 2010 A quick Toad update ...as i said in a previous post ...the toads i ''borrowed'' 12 days ago, that were heading for my neighbours garden that sort of ended up in my pond all left within 24 hours and i assume headed back to where they wanted to go in the first place well 3 night ago i was throwing the food on my lawn for my badger and foxes and as i chucked a bit of hotcross bun,the piece of grass where it landed suddenly moved ..and i realise it was another pair of mating toads it was pouring with rain and i had just had a bath but it was just too tempting and off i toddled and hey presto they were in my pond ...this time i noticed they were heading for the streetlight and not my neighbours fence ....anyway they are still in the pond along with my 2 smaller male toads that have been there for 12 days or so ...still in amplexus so i am keeping everything crossed that they will stay and breed ...to be honest i thought the toad breeding season was over now like the frogs ....but as my frogs were 27 days later spawning this year i am very very hopeful Marion ps it will be a first for me and a dream come true

| | | Re: Toads 2010 It vanished !!! what do you think happened to it .....if mine disapeared i would be devastated ...i know blackbirds etc ''love''juicy little tads ..but i was under the impression that toadspawn and toadpoles tasted very poisonous like ... adult toads ...to repell anything away from eating them ..and they were relatively safe .....Shame tho ....marion ps just read your post again and realised it was your frogspawn that went missing ...

| | | Re: Toads 2010 It's quite grubby from all the silt that's settled on it but I took some photos of the toad spawn in a tank this morning...
No sign of any turning into tadpoles yet, unlike the frogs (see Frogs and frogspawn)
Hope it's fertile!
