Frogs and frogspawn

Had our first spawn two days ago, really late for us this year. Three really good clumps in the main pond but none in the small one, however it was only put in last year so it is probably not yet mature enough.

I needn't have worried. Today, the sun is shining and the pond is alive with frogs.

There are about a dozen clumps of spawn, all layed over night or this morning.

Yes lovely shots shutterbox. I am envious of these people who can manage to get close enough to take shots of frogs - mine are very shy and dive for cover as soon as I get near the pond.
Still at least they have done me proud this year, ca 25% of pond is covered with spawn in various stages of development. More than 50% of taddies are out but majority congregating en masse at the middle of the largest spawn area. They are almost constantly wriggling and produce a coarse foam of bubbles. My wife did some temperature checks today. Air temp was 9oC, water temp was 10oC. In water among spawn vacated by tadpoles temp was 10oC but in spawn area with concentrated wriggling taddies was 12oC. So their activities resulted in a 2oC rise in local water temp - fascinating

Hi there had given up on having frogspawn this year but it arrived yesterday moring 27 days later than last year 5 or 6 plump clumps !!Marion..i am well excited as my kids used to say

Hi shutterbox, I keep going back to look at your frog pics above, I've decided it is the colours that make them outstanding to me. (I have no knowlege or experience of photography). Could you explain, ' in words of one syllabal', what camera/equipment you used for these shots...Posie...

I photographed some frog (and toad) spawn in a tank this morning. It was a bit grubby from the silt that's settled on it but you can clearly see the tadpoles developing inside. shouldn't be much longer until they hatch...

Nice work Dave...i too have set up an identical tank this year with frog and toad spawn and its at pretty much exactly the same stage as yours! They all keep randomly wriggling (contracting)...wonder who's will hatch first?

My frog and toad spawn has hatched! woop woop (indoors in tank)

However...the stuff in my pond, the village ponds/lakes is way way off...not even at the comma stage.
