| | Re: Frogs and frogspawn Good morning everyone
I'm a new member and I have a question. This morning we found that 3 frogs had taken up residence in a very small tray that has filled with water in the corner of our patio. It is also about a third full with frogspawn.
The tray is, obviously, too small for them and I wonder what is the best way to go about relocating the frogs to something with a bit more space - or should we leave them be but make sure there is more water nearby they can access?
We used to have a pond (which had frogs every year) but my in-laws (who own the garden/house) drained it when I had my son last year (I thought it was slightly pre-emptive at the time but that's another story!).
It's a sunken patio, with a high wall to the rest of the garden. There is access to the rest of the garden by steps, which is how they must have gotten down there in the first place but I'd like to move them up into the garden where we can shelter/protect them a bit more from the dog.
Any help gratefully received!
Many thanks |

| | Re: Frogs and frogspawn It's been all go in my wildlife pond so far this week. I estimate well over 25 froggies on a quick count the other day.
Their hormones are really rampant this year, since I built my pond in September 2006. The first frogspawn appeared in my pond this year on wednesday 17th March. Only two days later than last year. Not bad considering the bad winter we've had. See my pics I've posted! In the pic I took this morning these two even tried to get through the patio doors. To join me for breakie I think! |

| | | Re: Frogs and frogspawn First frogspawn appeared over night So pleased, so worried after the winter we had and as we have only had frogs in garden for 6yrs, after I adopted unwanted frogspawn, a teacher had brought into school for kids to watch develop.

| | Re: Frogs and frogspawn I'm soooo pleased for all you parents of frogspawn, but I still can't see any. Pond very still today, no spawn to be seen, though I have seen a few solitary frogs, and heard a few halfhearted croaks. But as I have a Mallard Duck sitting on 12 eggs, I don't go too near the pond for fear of frightening her, and so disturbing her, so if I get spawn as well it's a bonus, but she is my main concern, after she has gone through the process of producing all those eggs, it would be a terrible shame if she deserted because I had gone too close.....I find it very frustrating, not being able to look too close, but it'll be worth it if she hatches her eggs. Then the hard work will start, keeping the Crows and Magpies from eating the ducklings.... |

I feel guilty if I disturb the frogs, I'd never be out the window if I had a duck down there |

Does all frogspawn show well on the top of the water? Would I see it with bins?...Posie.. |

| | | Re: Frogs and frogspawn If it's resting at the top you would. I didn't realise I had spawn until I took a picture, then looking later I could see the dots under the surface. Now it has expanded a bit I can see loads
Can even see the frogs throats? blowing in and out when they croak
My bins are lidl specials. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
