| | | Slow worm help We are currently trying to get some work done on an alleyway behind our house that is overgrown. It is private property and we want it tidied up. I've been told it's home to a lot of slow worms, possibly grass snakes. I will be mentioning this to the council who may or may not be helping with the work but what shall I do if I find any. I believe they are protected. I have found a few before elsewhere, not bothered about picking them up or anything but at this time of year they'll be going into hibernation. I did watch Bill baileys prog on adders and lizard trans/re/location. I wouldn't mind them in the garden but there wouldn't be enough shelter. If there are some and I'm first to find them shall I capture them and put them somewhere where they should be happy? Do you think I should contact somebody about it? Thoughts appreciated folks |

| | | Re: Slow worm help Yes it's a worry because they will be hibernating soon, colder weather forecast for this week.
Perhaps best people to advise would be Herpetological Conservation Trust- I'm sure you can get contacts if you google them. |

| | | Re: Slow worm help Another good place to try would be a local amphibian and reptile group but if you get in touch with the herp trust they can probably put you in touch with the right people. Warren Cresswell who was on that prog with Bill Bailey is based in your neck of the woods so it wouldn't surprise me if there's someone who can help near by. I love slow worms....not so keen on snakes though |
