hey im new here i joined because i found a newt on my kitchen flooor, did some research lead me to this website and found out it was a 'smooth newt' how awesome

i had left the back door open, but sits weird because i dont have a pond or anything so dont kno where it came from lol

Hi Roxy, the newt may have come in via an outside ventilator in you wall looking for some where to winter, cool and dampish (not wet) is what they want.

I had a frog in my kitchen once Roxy,I cant explain how that got there.Do you have any cats,they are known for bringing "gifts".

no dont have cats, gotr a dog tho lucky she didnt get there before me lol... i left the back door open lol,,, is there anything i can put out the back for it?

Hi Roxy ,Newts do wander away from water though.When you say put something out the back for it ,do you mean food maybe ?It would find food for itself.Jason

I have newts in my garden but I have a pond (so does my neighbour). However I think they spend alot of their time out of water - as you have discovered. There must be water nearby though. The best habitat you could provide would be a log pile or a pile of stones - anywhere where they could hide. Hope they stick around.

Yes newt are usually terrestrial outside of breeding season in spring and early summer. They tend to stay around wet habitats until autumn when they hibernate amoungst wood, dead leaves, rocks etc.
