I suppose if a miracle did occur and they resurected then they could easily get out . My friends think i'm slightly crazed getting upset over my frogs but i can't explain to them how much i loved watching them. They were almost tame ( if that's possible) and i would lift up a lily pad and they would just look up at me . They would climb out and sit sunning themselves ontop of the plant pots just covered over slightly by the water and not seem at all concerned about human company. I'll try post a picture . The size of them is what was upsetting . Signing off as i'm off crying again . I've uploaded a picture in the Gallery. | Oh well Pond Girl, you did exactly the right thing! You could try digging them up in the spring and if there are no skeletons then they've survived! I hope you start feeling more cheerful soon. |

| | | Re: Frogs in winter Yes, sorry, I was concious that it could be considered a bit soon after the event, but it is important to remember that, much as we might prefer it otherwise, nature is not sentimental

| | | Re: Frogs in winter Our small garden pond (in Hampshire) is 12 months old and our very first frog has taken up residence. I was wondering what would happen in winter if it froze over like last winter.
So... if it snows, then the snow should be brushed off to allow light in. (not always easy to do if it is frozen though, but we will try). We did the tennis ball in the water, but that just got frozen onto the top of the pond. As we have plenty of oxygenating plants in the water, hopefully if the frog stays, then he/she should survive. Let us just hope that the winter is not too severe.
I will be keeping watch to see what everyone else is doing over the coming months. Cannot wait to see if we get any spawn next spring. It is so exciting. |
