| | | Toad ID please I was moving some wood to build a bonfire at the weekend (moving it to make very sure no wildlife was in situ before lighting it) and amongst my many fascinating finds of several newts, one rather cute little frog, millipedes, a multitude of woodies, a beautiful leopard slug and other such beasties was an absolutely stunning toad. I'm assuming it was just a female common toad being of large stature resembling the kind that normally live in and around my pond but for the colouring. I know they vary but this was quite distinct with orange markings along its sides and an overall pale brown appearance. Sadly I didn't have time to retrieve a camera before it disappeared in search of another hiding place. Rather short-sighted of me as I did anticipate some finds before I started the job.
No back stripe and too big to be a natterjack before anyone asks and I'm fairly sure they're not here on the Isle of Wight unless someone wants to tell me otherwise.
And I did make sure I left a woodpile for wildlife. In fact I have several large areas for such creatures. |

| | | Re: Toad ID please Thanks Kayleigh. Most definitely not a frog - it was enormous. And wonderfully warty. I love my garden |
