| | tadpoles to frogs I made a small pond on my allotment early this year and put some frog spawn in it, and over the last few months i have fed them on boiled lettuce and bloodworm and kept the water clean and topped up,and they are thriving, i still have a few tadpoles but they are turning into frogs .
Can anyone tell me do i keep feeding them when they have all turned to frogs or do i let them make their own way in life,i have a frog house for them to hibernate and they hop about all over the allotment, but they still seem to come back,i have grown quite attached to them, and i dont want to get something wrong now after coming so far with them. |

i know it's difficult but i think it's time you left them to fend for themselves. some of them won't make it, but the ones that do will be better equipped to survive whatever nature throws at them.
well done for taking such an interest in one of our most beautiful and vulnerable creatures.

I had an allotment for a few years and also had a small pond which produced hundreds of little froglets. The good thing about an allotment, especially if your plot is managed along organic lines, is that there will be loads of insects and baby slugs for them to eat. I wouldn't worry too much about them, let them go and do their thing and look forward to the survivors coming back in a few years to spawn themselves. |
