| | | Tadpoles Newt or Frog ? I think I might have some newt tadpoles, kids were scopping up tadpoles from my mothers pond, theyve been in a small aquarium, and have noticed some are dark & quite fat where others are lighter green sleeker with both sets of legs but still quite a long tail - are these newts ?.
Bearing in mind on my mums farm some organisation built two ponds to encourage greater crested newts, (not the ponds the tadpoles came from, it was just a garden feature).
Can they go into a river or do they need a pond. Help greatly appreciated. |

| | | Re: Tadpoles Newt or Frog ? Hi, and a warm welcome to WAB.
I'm not sure if they are normally found in rivers, perhaps in very slow moving ones but generally they like ponds and they can travel a fair distance overland.
Someone will give you an answer soon though.

If your looking to release them then its best they go back to where they were found.
They aren't normally found in rivers.. |

| | | Re: Tadpoles Newt or Frog ? Young newts will have pink feathery external gills on either side of the head near the neck. Toad and Frog 'poles don't have gills.
Cheers,
Adam
