Not sure exactly how long a Grass Snake can get but they certainly do grow quite long, i would think maybe 18 inches or slightly more, i am sure someone will be able to provide you with a more accurate figure than mine.
You can identify grass snakes by a white ring around the body just behind the head but colour is quite variable.
Just noticed the replies to your other thread on the subject so guess it is confirmed as a grass snake.
