Fantastic photo - so detailed! But this is definitely not like what I saw. The body of the creature was milky white and completely opaque. The head was a brownish-golden colour - very tiny in proportion to the body, and did not have any visible mandibles (although they were clearly there!). I went out again yesterday for some observation of the pond but didn't see any of these things. Saw lots of other different sorts of worm-like things, but not these boys. One day I shall try and identify all of the amazing life we have in the pond!
I did see lots and lots of froglets, though - we are really having to watch where we step all over the garden, as they seem to be everywhere! At the moment, the most ferocious predators that we can see are the blackbirds - they are quite amazingly efficient at picking out the tadpoles AND froglets.
