| | | Re: He's minute Juvenile palmates and smooths are always difficult to tell apart. Female palmates don't have webbed rear feet or the tail filament, both of which are exclusive to the male. As a rule of thumb, palmates are smaller than smooths [doesn't help with juvenile] and the female palmate has a creamy throat without any spots.
But guidelines do exist for distinguising 'pure-bred' efts/juveniles. These guidelines are just that... tests using the guidelines had an average of 85% accuracy, while experienced herpers had up to 98% accuracy. They are based on average morphology [appearance] and the vertebral stripe.
