| | Re: How can I deter frogs in the garden? Hello, please do not get rid of the pond, my daughter is the same over frogs toads and worms but thankfuly she as a twelve year old girl that will lift up drains or go to any lengths to save them, they now have a minature pond, I have let the fear of snakes ruin my hobby of fishing, I have not been for the last twelve months after seeing a number of large grass snakes, this makes me very silly but i cannot overcome it so i do understand these phobias anyway your partener does not need to come in contact with the frogs etc, tell him you like them and that is that, people must put up with some things that their parteners like, good luck, aland. |

| | | Re: How can I deter frogs in the garden? Firstly can I thank all of you who have replied to my question. I maybe should have pointed out that my partner is my 'civil' partner, so getting rid would be somewhat extreme; involving a divorce!!
I have suggested therapy before, especially after having watched a programme on the telly with a woman who had a frog phobia. Even the 'Evergreen' advert sends her diving behind the cusions!! I'm not kidding on that one either!
Again, I have told her that getting rid of the pond will not necessary get rid of the frogs as they'll just move in under the shed etc (didn't go down too well!!) I know there are other ponds in neighbouring gardens a few hundred metres away and plenty of hidey holes such as raised decking and greenhouses etc around in other gardens, so I guess there would be no escape regardless.
I guess I'll just have to try the therapy issue again!!
Thanks again for all of the responses anyway. |

| | | Re: How can I deter frogs in the garden? We have a very small pond in our back garden and a number of frogs and fish of whom we are extremely fond. However, I understand and have every sympathy with your partner and you - phobias are all too real and very frightening for those who have them - and all too easy too dismiss by those who don't.
If the phobia is as serious as it sounds (and I have no reason believe otherwise) then, if I was in your position - and if your partner is unable to deal with the phobia - I might well consider getting rid of the pond in order to be able to do what I could NOT to contribute to the problem.
Of course it won't stop frogs appearing, but at least your partner will know that you haven't encouraged them. |
