| | Care for the newt in my tank? Helloo, A number of weeks ago, I had an empty tank and thought it might be nice to rear some of the tadpoles from the pond, as our garden is full of a number of birds, including a heron who enjoys his dinner from our pond! They're reaching the stage where they're getting all their legs, so I'm releasing them as they look ready to go it alone, but today I noticed a strange looking frogling, who'se back legs looked nothing like any of the other tad's! I'm pretty sure it's a newt, but I know nothing about their care, it seems to have been getting on ok with the care the tad's have been getting, but is there anything special I need to do? since it has all 4 legs, should I release it now? It's still quite small, maybe an inch and a half, including it's tail. What should I do with it? I didn't know we even had any newts in our pond Thanks in advance!! |

The Smooth Newt - Lissotriton vulgaris is quite a common find in garden ponds but often not noticed due to their behavior.
As Kayleigh suggests just release it back into the pond. It will be fine.

"Did You Know?
When coming up for air there is usually a popping sound heard."
Confirms it!
