They were newly hatched tadpoles when I got them which was a couple of days before starting this thread - around 21st or 22nd April. So if anyone knows how long they take to hatch that will give a guide to when the frogs spawned in North Kent last year.
I'm going to try and repeat this with toads this year and am hoping to start with spawn rather than waiting til they've already hatched.

Dave P. | I look forward to your Toad pics Dave, and perhaps you would put a corresponding frog pic next to them at each stage.(Extra work uploading I know, but would be useful to us for comparison)And what's next year Dave, Nessie spawn?? ...Posie.. |

Once again i think you are guilty of being skinnyist!...(and not in the good way you hope!)
I know lots of skinny people who have successfully made babies!

Newts would be fun but I don't know anywhere that they breed. Plus great crested newts are seriously protected so I wouldn't touch them anyway. I could try some marsh frogs - last years were common frogs.

I'd be real tempted to opt for the mallard ducklings given the choice . Theres no point me having a bridge, one reasonably lengthed stride and i'd be across my pond lol |

| | Re: Tadpoles Hi Susie, BIG is definitely Not always best. It's ok if you have the management labour available to match, but if you don't, which I haven't, it does rather 'spoil' it. I think that, as I want it all, that is frogs, ducks and heron and etc, I should have a small pond for frog-spawn which I could manage to protect from predators, and then just leave the big pond to nature,ie the food chain. I know there are newts in there 'cos I got a glimpse of one, don't know what sort though, there's absolutely NO hope of me identifying them, because of the size of the pond. So what I'm trying to say is that , though it sounds as though I am ungrateful, a smaller pond would be more suitable in my circumstances, probably better for me AND the pond.I've just re-read this post and it sounds so terribly ungrateful and negative that I am ashamed of it, but maybe some posts will come in to help...Posie.. |
