| | | Re: Tadpoles Wow excellent photos dave. Ive just found this thread. So is the flash above the tank in all these photos? And are they light by direct sunlight as well? You not helping me restrain from buying a sigma macro and flash! |

Yep all lit with diffuse flash from above. I discovered this more than 25 years ago when I used to keep tropical fish. The only way to get decent photos of them was with a slave flash firing from above the tank. For these taddies I've also used two more remote flashes to light the ivy leaves in the background. The biggest problem with this is that the flash picks out every tiny little speck of dust in the water. I did a complete water change before each photo session but still had lots of work to tidy up the backgrounds. This is why I'm considering doing it again next year with a proper aquarium set up instead of just a cheap tank in the garden.

Dave P. | These have worked out excellently Dave despite it being as you say a cheap tank in the garden. I think it would be well worth a proper aquarium set up. It's not everday you can see photos as good as this in water |

I haven't got any yet, frogs are there one minute, gone the next, and they are skinny ones at that, but it's the waiting that is the fun. ...Posie... |

Also I disturbed 2 wild ducks tonight, before dark, they flew off, probably they would eat the spawn when it comes. Which is it best to have ? , Tadpoles/baby frogs or mallard ducklings. I suspect the ducks came in 'cos THEY know spawn is imminent.Do ducks eat skinny frogs? I think I saw a photo on one thread of a waterbird of some sort, I think it was a duck, with a frog in it's mouth. I've just had another thought, p'raps the frogs have been spawning, and the ducks have been eating it., also there's the heron that comes, I wonder if he eats spawn?..Then again, if I get ducklings (but no tadpoles) the crows and/or buzzard and/or the kestrel will have Them.
