Where to find Adders in Derbyshire

I am new here, was just wondering if anyone on here knows of the best place to find Adders in Derbyshire?

Anywhere around the A57 near Ladybower the A57 is known as Snake Pass for good reason. I have looked for adders many times and never seen them, but have seen dozens when not looking for them, hope this is of some use.

I always thought that the A57 was called "Snake Pass" because it winds or snakes though the peak. If you've ever been on it you'll know what I mean.

They are quite rare in derbyshire so I doubt anyone will put a location up on here!

Not true I'm afraid.

To quote from the National Trust website at:

'The origins of the name can be found in the early part of the 19th century when construction of the Turnpike road began. A Turnpike Trust was set up to manage the toll road and the then Duke of Devonshire was appointed Chairman. Tolls were collected at the Snake Inn, then a coaching inn, which derived its name from the Duke of Devonshire family coat of arms the 'Snake and Staff'.

Having walked / climbed extensively over much of Derbyshire over many years I have never once seen any snakes there.

I think a lot of people would hesitate to publicise locations to avoid abuse to the snakes.

Be interested to hear if others have seen adders in the Peaks though...
