Newts, Well, Proposed pond.

I have just found some newts in an old well. Not sure what type they are, i suspect the common one.
The well is spring fed, and very overgrown. It was used until 1972.

I propose to renew the well, dig a large pond, plant willow for fuel. Eventually, the well will supply our water.

We have done the relocation thingy, bought a neglected smallholding and cottage (hovel). Applied for organic status.

What i need is help and advice so i don't mess up the natural wildlife whilst developing the farming side.

Welcome to WAB. You'll find lots of people here able to offer you all sorts of advice.

My first advice is to establish for sure what type of newts you have found. Probably common newts, as you say, but if they are great crested newts, which are endangered, it is illegal to disturb them or damage their habitat. If you have pictures someone here will be able to identify them for you. Or you will also be able to find pictures in the Gallery here of the different types for comparison.
