Advice needed

Hi,

I have a barrel about one foot deep in my garden, I usually change the water once a year (there are no filters or anything in it) this year I have found a frog in it, I've no idea how long he has been there. I'm now wondering if I should go ahead and empty the barrel and refil it with clean tap water or just leave it as it is. The water is pretty dirty, is this what frogs like? The barrel has a metal grill over it to keep out kids/dogs so he would be safe there if he wanted to stay.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi Lexie,
Welcome to WAB
It might be better if you left the water as itis untill the frog leaves, tap water has additives in it that may harm the little thing,
Check and see if there are tadpoles or spawn in your barrel,
Frogs are good in the garden, they eat all the things that eat your plants, so keep an eye on it for a while,
Take a photo of it and post in on WAB in a thread about your frog and the tadpoles (if there is any) and keep us posted on it's progress

Hi Lexie,

I too have a barrel I have had mine now for 3 years and only changed the water once due to it going black and smelly.
I have lots of oxygenating plants in there a miniature water lily and an Iris as they filter the water and help keep it clean..
My barrel is in the archive will pm you the link if you want if you cant find it.
I have tadpoles ATM..
but they are tiny..
