Thanks for that - are those the ACO wildlife kerbs? Have you found they work? I am recommending them for urban/ suburban areas within 500m of a pond but have yet to find a good solution in rural areas. It's about time a wildlife friendly gullypot was designed - what a difference that would make throughout the UK.
Last year 69% and this year 63% of all gullypots I checked contained wildlife of some kind. No great crested newts though, which would speed up any mitigation measures.
Could I contact you directly if I need any advice?!
Many thanks, Daniele |

If you want to contact me off list e-mail me or drop me a PM with your own e-mail.

| | | Re: frogs and newts in a storm drain Hello everyone,
I was wondering if any of you are having problems with trapped amphibians in the road side drains/gullypots this year? It has happened again here this year which is keeping me pretty busy at the moment saving what I can at two sites.

Yes, I am rescuing the usual amphibians and scooping out the dead mammals. Strangely I don't find nearly as many in the spring as I do throughout summer & autumn - any idea why this is?
If you are finding GCN in your gullypots then your local authority has a biodiversity duty to protect them (that's certainly the case in Scotland) & has to do something about preventing them dying in the gullypots. There's a really good report done by the Vale of Glamorgan Pond Survey which is here: http://www.valeofglamorgan.gov.uk/li...s_project.aspx
I have got £4800 funding from SITA money to put wildlife kerbs into a problem spot! If they are shown to work then the Roads Dept is keen to use them next to gullypots across the county which is great news. Roads depts can be persuaded!

Daniele | Thanks for the useful information. I will have a look at the link you mentioned.
