| | New here with ? about frog hibernation Hello, I've joined the forum in order to ask about frog hibernation.
I live in Scotland in a tiny village and frogs seem to hibernate in an old rockery in my tiny garden. I have no pond and the nearest stream is a fair but reasonably uninterupted distance, to my mind, for frogs. There is at least one pond in the village, probably as far away as the stream in another direction in amongst the houses.
MY question, in the main, is when do frogs come out of hibernation? I have been trying to dismantle the horrible rockery thing in my garden but did not touch it over winter knowing that frogs use it. I have people interested in the stones via Freecycke but I did warn them that I will have to be sure that my frogs are out of hibernation before I start at the rockery again.
Don't worry, I won't leave them without a hibernation place next winter, but sadly do not have room on a postage stamp to create a pond.
Can anyone help?
Thanks

| | | Re: New here with ? about frog hibernation I would imagine they've emerged from hibernation and dispersed to their breeding pond or stream, atleast they have here in Newcastle.
There may be a couple of juvi's still around tho, when the adult toads were breeding (The frogs having done so earlier), I found a small toad hibernating under a large stone so i'd imagine there'd still be some young frogs holed up waiting for warmer weather...I could be wrong tho. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
