| | | Re: Tadpole Diet - In Summary I have let my taddies (also my firstborn) eat au natural, they have made a great job of cleaning up the blanket weed and a fatter, more contented crowd of taddies you couldn't want to see. There are still some small pockets of BW remaining, and plenty of other green vegetable material in the plants so I won't be supplementing at all. Like FF, I also have a huge diversity in size, with a hatch period spanning no more than 2 days. I reckon in mass terms, must be a difference of at least 3 or 4 fold. I suppose humans have a similar mass range, but from a much larger (one would think) genetic pool (or pond and perhaps not in juveniles. Like FF I am also missing toads from my "set" of amphibians (in the pond), so would appreciate any tips on encouraging them. I have a neigbour whose pond is much older and it may be that also like FFs toads, they prefer to return to the pond in which they were spawned

| | | Re: Tadpole Diet - In Summary well I'm down to my last 60 taddies in the house after releasing around 400 into the ponds outside - and very well they are doing as well - since moving in last winter the ponds have never been so clean. I have put some spinach in the ponds and this has gone down a real treat. Given the progress I might experiment with the marmit and bread soon... |

| | | R Umm... do tadpoles stick to the walls for the first few days? Because mine do.
Also the about egg clump that hasn't hatched yet, what happens to the tadpole in the middle hatches, surrounded 360 degrees by other eggs? |

| | | Re: Tadpole Diet - In Summary taddies stick to the sides for the first few days - as for any eggs undeveloped - they provide food for the ones that have hatched....
...sadly let the last 40 taddies go back into the pond at the weekend as puppy training (with all the mess!!!) meant I couldn't keep up with everything so they have joined a thriving community in the pond |

| | | Re: Tadpole Diet - In Summary last night spotted 2 froglets hoping on the patio! sadly the garden design means the garden is on a slope and the patio has a small wall so any froglet dropping over the wall to the patio won't make it back.....did lend a helping hand and put two back near the pond. With a young puppy not watching where he steps then the poor things have a lot of cope with!! | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
