| | | help needed identifying spawn ??? forgive me if the answer to this is really obvious. but i was fascinated by a huge pile of what looks like the stuff you use to keep plants moist whilst your on holiday! I may be making a fool of myself here by asking, but can anyone help me identify what it is please.
large pile four of five inches high , very large individual 'cells' and not grey but crystal clear appart from obvious centres in the middle of the 'cells' . It was NOT in the water but was on the bank of my small lake.
It is on private land so there is no human traffic round the lake. any clues please , id love to know what it is. the other ponds are absolutly heaving with frog spawn . but non evident on the little lake / large pond. i really would appreciate any help , and again, appologies if i look a complete prat here. |

If it had the black dot in the centre i'd assume its frogspawn, that was laid at the edge of the pond but the waterline receded and left it high and dry.
(I saw the same thing yesterday when I visited my local Reserve....Couldn't help myself shoveling it back into the water...lol)
Toadspawn isn't laid in a clump, its in a double string wrapped around plants etc
From what i've read all our native newts lay their eggs attached to leaves etc which they fold over to protect the egg.
So unless it was something along the lines of the Jelly Mystery then my guess is Frogspawn. |
