| | | Frogs galore! This is my first posting on this site, following hot on the heels of my other half.
We have had a lot of activity in our ponds today followed by more spawn, we are worried though that none will become tadpoles as some looks a little milky.
We did have some froggie poseurs today so we took full advantage of that with wide lens!
Hope you enjoy the pictures |

| | | Re: Frogs galore! hello great images as long as there is a lot of spawn some should survive. Lots of frogs returning is a good sign that the pond has been successful in the past.
can I ask, I notice a lot of leaves are in your pond do you ever net it in autumn or leave the pond to nature?

| | | Re: Frogs galore! Phew, we really have our fingers crossed that we will get to see some tadpoles and froglets in the future.
We have only just moved into our house so the garden had been left to it's own devices for a long time before we moved in from what we can gather. We were going to start work on it during the summer but spotted movement in the ponds last weekend and discovered all the frogs. We will be doing something about the leaves but are wary to disturb anything right now in case we disrupt our froggie friends. Should we leave the leaves until after the spawning stops or remove some of them now? |

| | | Re: Frogs galore! Following on the other half's comments the leaves in the ponds is a bit of a plus and minus to nature....
plus - it gives the frogs an excellent place to hide under (especially in the shallower pond) and therefore a place to stay
minus - it will turn the ponds even dirtier.
So our choices are:
1 - in autumn clean out the ponds (leaving some water at the bottom incase any frogs remain
2 - use some pond cleaner (I have seen them in nottcuts - anyone recommend one that doesn't do any harm to wildlife????)
3 - leave it as is |

| | | Re: Frogs galore! Welcome to WAB Mr & Mrs CamberleyWulf!
Our pond is also full of frogs and spawn at the mo.....we don't net and clean out the leaves when necessary and have had frogs/spawn in the pond for over 20 years. |

| | | Re: Frogs galore! Many thanks for the welcome and the advice Ruth
So in the autumn looks like I'll have to get my hands mucky and clean out the ponds - maybe if people post in and say MrsCW should do it (for any reason you'd like to make up ) then I'll be very thankful! | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
