Yes, they have to get out of the gel but sit on the top of it eating slowly. Seldom move much, especially when it's not warm.
Soon they'll need greenstuff to eat - be prepared!
There have been lengthy threads in the past - might be useful looking them up for some tips.

| | | Re: Disintegrating frogspawn I am a bit concerned because we have loads of frogspawn in our pond and as it is starting to disolve I think it may begin to turn the water putrid. The only solution I can think of it to run the hose into the pond to dilute the water but then the nutrient content in the water will go up and the water will go green and the blanket weed will go mad. |

| | | Re: Disintegrating frogspawn Susie, difficult to say what is happening but our spawn tends to look 'fizzy' as the development proceeds. Here's a sequence of shots I took last year showing spawn development which will give an idea of what ought to be happening. |
