strange looking spawn

I have a clump of spawn in the pond - just appeared in the last hour or so - and it doesn't have any jelly around it - it just looks like a mass of little black dots with bits of white in it - I can't photograph it as it is sitting just below the surface. Any ideas?

Also how long do frogs have to mate to produce spawn?

its frog spawn it must be newly laid. The mass will expand as the jelly takes on water from the pond...It would be hard for a little frog to keep a jamjar full inside itself...

Thanks - I thought that must be the case - but I haven't ever seen it so freshly laid before and wasn't sure how it all works. Even that amount of eggs from one little frog is pretty clever. After years of pond watching it all never ceases to amaze me . . .

Ye i saw fresh spawn for the first time a few day ago. I guessed it would look nice and healthy soon enough it now looks like the perfect clump of spawn
