Help

I have just gone outside to give the dogs their last wee and found a Smooth Newt on the backdoor step.

I can put it in a pond tomorrow, but what do I do with it tonight??

Honestly mate provided it's relatively safe just leave it. Or place it in a nearby hedgerow. I think it's looking for somewhere to snuggle up ??

I woud have liked to show my son, but its a bit late to wake him up!!!

We have slow worms in the garden, but this is something new. At first I thought he's left a toy on the door sill, but it moved....

Never seen a Newt before. fab

hi there

the others are quite right. newts don't live in water through the autumn and winter...they live and hibernate on land. it's fairly mild out tonight so put it somewhere sheltered in the garden and i'm sure it will be fine.

I know it's proberly naughty bit i let my kids take turns to hold the newt i had.. poor kids these days can't go out newt and frog collecting, frog spawn nicking to put into their ponds their dads dug etc etc etc

It's good for the kids to do this IMO as i grew up doing it as i would say 99% of WAB members did who most have had a bnucket full of frogs and newts in their early years.

sad that as wildlife declines, this innocense isn't possible on a daily basis. More like a one off treat.
