| | | frog house Hi All
I was pondering whether to get a frog/toad house?
Has anyone got one and are they any good?
I seem to be obsessed with making homes or things at the minute .... hedgies, bees, insects etc etc. Must be getting broody
Thanks

| | | Re: frog house You're like me, Gill. Last weekend I cut some cane down in the garden and didn't like to waste it - with all them snug-looking holes. So went into the workshop and found three pieces of equal-sized wood, chicken wire, got the OH to fix the water butt drainpipe so I could have a spare piece, cut the inside pieces up all up the same length somehow managed to put the whole rickety lot together. It'll only last the Winter but I've saved £15 on an insect hotel and what an achievement.
I designed my frog pond with a series of hidey-holes mainly comprising of drainpipes incorporated round the edge beneath large blocks of sandstone.
That was a lot of fun too. More fun that buying, IMHO.

| | | Re: frog house that sounds cool - I saw a load of them at martin mere yesterday and I was wondering do the insects actually use them??
that was next on the list of building prjoects but the weather today is nasty so I've got the other half building me a feeding station for my hedgies.
the frogs and toads usually end up in the large pile of old terrcotta pots I have at the back of the garden - how they get between them I don't know ... can't be comfy having to squash yourself flat.
I iwll let you know how it goes.

| | | Re: frog house Mine just have snuggly holes around the garden. Few in the log pile, some under old pots by the summer house others under leaves and one or two in the pond As long as your garden isn't of the pristine, tidy type they should find plenty of snuggle holes

| | | Re: frog house thanks for all the advice ... I'm on the trail of some logs anyway as I wanted to make a log pile.
Been in contact with the council to see if I coudl get some when they trim the trees but I think they thought I was winding them up as they didn't really want to help.
Thanks

I never touch it in its growing season only when it is dead it has lived at the bottom of my garden for the 19 rs I have lived here and it has not spread. It does have some use and yes insects use it spiders love it and lace wings
