smooth newt

hi ive just 'found' a smooth newt in my back yard,, i dont have a pond what should i do with it? I thi

nk it should be hibernating???
can anybody help please?

just let it go where you found it, it will be absolutely fine

. smooth newts do hibernate but can tolerate the current weather comfortably.

Yeah I often find them under logs and stones in the winter - maybe he was looking for a nice safe spot to snuggle down in

Do as the others have said try to put it in some long grass that's not disturbed and away from cats..
