Tiny frog?

OK, I've read the thread about the tiny toad, but it looks like a toad in the pictures. You know, lumpy. Last week while walking the coastal path in North Yorkshire, I saw and picked up a tiny, solid brown, SMOOTH-skinned little guy. No warts, no lumps, no discernable pattern, and less than an inch long. After getting a good look, I placed it back in the grass and walked on, almost immediately remembering the brand new digital camera in my pocket. Yeah, you guessed it, I couldn't find it again. Any idea what it was? Would a frog or toad still be that small this late in the year? Thanks.

Yesterday I found a Common Froglet in my garden near the pond that was only c1cm long.

Yes it could be either, the smooth skin suggests a frog, although toads are variable and can sometimes be quite smooth. This years batch will be of this size at this time of year.

I have tiny toads and they are smooth when they are small. They also crawl and not jump

A Tadpole would be a start
