| | | Re: Small Frog They spawn once a year. In colder, less nutrient rich water, new ponds etc ...etc tadpole will take longer to develop. sometimes taking a couple of years compared to a tadpole in better conditions which will mature faster. |

Originally Posted by sleipnerofasgard Are there many different Frogs or is a Frog a Frog so to speak | There 100s of frog species across the world but if you mean in the UK there is only 1 native species (the one you found) the common frog. But the 3 water frog species have been introduced from europe across various places (the marsh, pool and edible frog), although there was native population of pool frogs that went extinct in the 90s, before we realiesd they were native and not introduced, BUT these have now been re-introduced aswell. The european tree frog was present in the new forest, possibly native but could have been introduced like it was in a few other spots, but thanks to collection and habitat loss (ie the one pond is now unsuitable!) there all gone too. Oh and we now have the massive american bullfrog roaming about in Kent and a few nearby places - I think that about covers it for frogs, now toads on the other hand..... |
