| | | Grass snake egg Hi,
Found a single egg on our patio, [thought it was a juvenile birds egg], turns out it's probably a grass snake egg, have googled around and couldn't find very much helpfull, all the sites say pretty well the same thing.
Any ideas on looking after it, a site did mention 86* F keeping them moist, well this ones been on the table all day but the air temp is 30*C but not moist, we can't think how to keep the temp up, no incubators or heating mats, the airing cupboard is now cool, I don't rate it's chances.
Max.
P.S. we have a compost heap, could we put it in there safely. ?

| | | Re: Grass snake egg There is probrably not a great chance this egg will survive, we dont know how long its been away from the nest, grass snakes usually form a nest which the mother incubates for 6-10weeks. You could try the compost heap incase there is a nest there, but other than that im not sure how to artificially do it. |

| | | Re: Grass snake egg Yes, as Dogghound has said, Grass Snakes lay their eggs in hot places (fermenting compost heaps) and let the natural heat do the work of incubating. I share Dogghound's doubts that this egg will develop. I will try and contact my GrassSnake expert friend to see if he has any ideas.

| | | Re: Grass snake egg Hi,
Sorry to say it dried up, would have loved to have it hatch, but, thats the way it goes.
