| | | Re: do newts have teeth? Yes:
When on land, smooth newts tend to feed on insects, worms and slugs by projecting their tongues to catch prey. They do not use their tongues to catch prey in water, relying instead on their minute teeth to grab onto the prey. Shrimps, water lice, insect larvae, water snails and frog tadpoles form their diet in the water.
Hope this helps |

| | | Re: do newts have teeth? so could they chew a worm that would be too big for them to swallow hole like they do with small slugs etc?
i've not yet seen a newt tounge some prey, i just seen them neck them, ie wait till its in neck movment range then grab it with its mouth and eat. |

| | | Re: do newts have teeth? Newts dont chew they swallow whole, their teeth are small pegs that are not adapted for chewing but for holding on to prey. |

They seem to have their little "territories". But when disturbed, they move fast so you have to be quick |

| | | Re: do newts have teeth? they only tend to run if they know you have seen them, most of the ones i seen under stones and logs stay very still hoping they not been seen
they'll run and hide under stuff when they know they been rumbled
of all the newts i seen i've never seen one in the water, apart from the one i released into water | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
