| | Help! Snake in xexexexexexexe!! Hi all,
New to this so apologies for mistakes in advance....
I have a snake in my xexexexexexexe!! We live in a very rural area and are very aware that snakes live in the compost heap and often see them wondering around the garden, but after coming downstairs this morning and nearly stepping on one I need help luring it out and sending it on its way....
He was about 3 feet long, quite fat, but disappeared under the work surface and we haven't seen him since. We know he's not going to hurt us, but we are slightly uneasy about him living under the sink (or somewhere in the xexexexexexexe!). More importantly, we just want to return him home before he gets himself into trouble....
Any ideas how to lure him out??
Help!! Only found him this morning, but have a suspicion he was in a boot that was outside on the gravel, which we brought into the house yesterday evening. So he's been without food for 36 hours already....
Thanks in advance! |

Thanks in advance! | Does your xexexexexexexe door open to the outside? Do you live somewhere where you can leave th door open overnight? It would probably follow the light in the early morning and leave....
Otherwise
try to encourage it out gently with a stick - have an enticingly dark space close by, perhaps a box for it to run into (if snakes run) when you've indicated with the stick that under the sink is not the right place.
Basically you want to make where it currently is not very nice while at the same time providing what looks like a better place for the snake that you are able to then shuffle out into the garden quick smart. |

Left the door open most of today, but don't think it'll venture out. Will keep it open again tomorrow!
Poor thing- it must be scared to death! |

Here's one a different colour to ron's link . Adder - Vipera Berus (Female) - Wildlife Photography
Is probably a nice friendly grass snake tho. Oooh and warm welcome to WAB )

Thanks for all the help and advice. | I think when its quiet and very dark inside but light outside it will leave - probably early orning - do you have a camcorder you could set up to record for peace of mind? - Perhaps 4am onwards? |

Definitely a grass snake... he wasn't a baby though! Quite a healthy size.
We see them quite regularly- almost trod on one a week ago on the gravel so this one's just taken a wrong turn and ended up in here.
Trouble is, he probably thinks that under the work surface is nice, warm and dark- so won't venture out.
Will leave the door open overnight and hope he's gone by tomorrow! |

| | | Re: Help! Snake in xexexexexexexe!! A warm, welcome to 'Thesmiths'! It was certainly a Grassnake , Adders do not grow that big! So no worries there. Grass snakes are completely harmless and only want to escape from what they percieve as dangerous, I.e.( humans!) and I can concurr with that!
