Too much frog interbreeding?

We live in an old house that has an enclosed high stone walled garden to the rear. We have a wild life pond and a fish pond, lots of newts and hundreds of frogs. We have lived in the house for 20 years and I guess the frog familes go back much further then that as they can't get out of the garden. I have noticed that for the last 5 or 6 years we have had much less frogsporn and much of it does not fully develop. Many of the frogs now have narrow thin backs, there is loads of food in the garden so I wondered if its a case of many years in breeding. I don't use any pesticides. Does any one know if this can happen and should I try to introduce some new frogs from elswhere?

Re: Too much frog interbreeding?

There is totally no way in and out of your garden for a frog? if thats the case it might be worth bringing some in from local area, and maybe releasing some of yours into that area. Try not to get go to far a field for them though, this reduces the likelihood of disease transmission.

Re: Too much frog interbreeding?

I will see if I can swap some with my parents who live nearby and have lots of frogs as well.
We have noticed that locally a lot of the frogs seem to be getting rather boney looking and more and more tappoles seem to go on into the autumn still with no legs and then die off in the colder weather. I wondered if this was happening elsewhere or if its normal.
