| | | Frog tadpole ID Was supervising a pond dip today and one of them kids fished out this tadpole - Im pretty sure its not a common toad taddy (its not black) but it seemed noticably larger than your average frog tadpole. Also its the first frog tadpole found in this pond (its usually just newts) so Im wondering if some one has released some marsh frog tadpoles from Rainham or somewhere?
BTW I hope this photo is ok (I was under tree cover in this awful weather) as the poor thing is in a pond called the damselfly pond with good reason and has to contend with backswimmers, dragoinfly nymphs, newts and a new resident in the last week or so - water scorpions! |

| | | Re: Frog tadpole ID You would probrably need to see under it to see the position of the vent for definitive ID. It looks alot like a common frog by its colour and shape. Whats making you think marsh frog? Marsh frog tadpoles usually live at the deepest point in the pond although its possible a common frog could be in the area too, marsh frog tadpoles are also very solitary, if this helps. Tapoles do vary in size within a species its very common to get very large individuals and very small ones from the same egg mass. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
