Do Newts eat baby Goldfish

Hi guys,

I have a small pond that has 6 common Newts and now I have found baby
Goldfish I'm wondering will the Newts eat the baby Goldfish ?

If they do eat them, would it be a good idea for me to invest in a fishtank
so I can save them ?

I know Adult Fish will, but I'm lucky as the previous owner of the house
took the parents to her new home.

Probably! But soon the adults will leave the pond after laying their eggs, so they may be safe.
What you do with your baby fish depends on whether you prefer goldfish or newts. (I prefer newts).
I think you can get some sort of net to put in the pond to put the babies in- I've even heard of popup laundry baskets being used.

Well I have a plastic bowl, it's not a goldfish bowl, but I was thinking of putting them in there. I would float it in the pond, however I worry that
the cats in the local neighbourhood might play with the bowl. I know my
cat loves to go to the pond.

If they could catch them i'm sure they would, it is most likely that Goldfish would eat baby newts

Anybody wanting a wildlife pond should ensure all fish are removed - the fish will eat the eggs of whatever is in your pond.
Your local Wildlife Trust should have leaflets available to advise you further.

I dont have baby goldfish, have baby Newts instead I'm not
going to put fish in, to be honest, pond is to small.
