| | | Very bad pic of newt laying eggs. This was taken yesterday with me leaning over the pond. The Smooth Newt is laying eggs on the plants with its back legs curling the leaves. |

| | | Re: Very bad pic of newt laying eggs. Well caught. I can imagine how tricky it is. I spend hours watching our newts and now I might even recognize what they're doing. Certainly they've become very active again over the past few days. |

| | | Re: Very bad pic of newt laying eggs. Do you need lots of pond plants for newts to breed? I have 5 clumps of water mint, 1 water Forget-me-not and some oxygenators. Its a new pond this spring with lots of micro organisms from a donor pond.
There are some tadpoles too as well as snails, beetles, flat worms and a couple of Damsel fly nymphs.
Our garden has had loads of frogs and newts in the 3 years we have been here with no pond, I live in the Midlands does that make a difference to when they would breed?
So many questions!!! |

| | | Re: Very bad pic of newt laying eggs. We only had a few plants (oxygenators) when our pond was new three years ago. If the conditions are right they will breed. We only have lots of plants cause its hard to remove them when newts are breeding. I shouldn't think location would matter too much. |

| | | Re: Very bad pic of newt laying eggs. Thank you Kayleigh, I will keep watching. It would be great to have them breeding here. But they know what and where is best for them at the end of the day
Got my fingers crossed though! |
