| | | Smooth Snakes I just thought you might like to see pictures of a couple of Smooth Snakes I found today at the side of the road on the A31 in Dorset, under corrugated sheets.
As you can imagine I'm incredibly excited to find them, as I believe they are our rarest reptile in the UK.
I'm hoping someone isn't going to turn round and say they are something else!

| | | Re: Smooth Snakes Thanks. My first EVER smooth snakes.... yet to see an adder. You would think they would be a lot easier - but I'm still searching!

| | | Re: Smooth Snakes I think those are the tins and refugia me and Arvensis looked at not so long ago, we found smooth snakes, adders, common lizards, a grass snake and a melanistic (or very dark coloured) common lizard, so they are good places to look and im sure you will find your adder there soon, carefull when you lift the refugia though, dont want your first adder encounter to be a bad one. |

| | | Re: Smooth Snakes Watch out for the police to, as the police HQ is nearby and we were stopped and questioned to what we were doing, once we showed them our liscences they were ok and seemed quite interested, even asked to see the photos i had taken!
Its actually the first time ive ever had to show my liscence, and to be honest i dont think the cops actualy knew you needed a liscence for the smooth snakes and sand lizards, but they do now! |

| | | Re: Smooth Snakes I've seen two adders now... both females but in different places. One on Upton Heath (on a sunny morning) and the other at Verwood, in a field belonging to a friend. Here is the Verwood one. You can see that she has a slight injury on her tail. Any idea what would cause this? |
