| | | Re: Newt Efts - any idea what species? They look like Smooth newts, Sorry carnt really describe to many features, just experience, the overall face has a smooth newt look with the markins etc. The bottom picture is less developed and would resume since its with other smooth newt it is also one. |

| | | Re: Newt Efts - any idea what species? At this tage smooth and palmate newts cant be told apart. The best that can be done is to say its a smooth or palmate newt. |

| | | Re: Newt Efts - any idea what species? Although not greatly clear in a photo the two species can be told apart at this age in the field simply by the grove between the eye and nostril which is lacking in palmate newts and present in smooth. The colouration is not present in newts of this age to distinguish species, nor is the sexual dimorphism to distinguish sex. But the basic anatomy is the same OR do you guys disagree with this aswell? |

Only the abstract on here im afraid but it mentions clearly another way of IDing the two species from an earlier age. |

| | | Re: Newt Efts - any idea what species? Do you refer to a groove that is visible from a top view or a side view of the head?
If from the side view- isn't this just the eye stripe which I think both species have? |
