| | | Re: anyone got toadspawn in their ponds ?? I have not seen any yet. But Its too cold to stand looking into the pond at the moment. My pond is full of plants so its very hard to see the toad spawn as it is wrapped around plants under the water. I accidentally dug a toad up not long ago..He was in a hole in the ground. I was digging over for the spring..I put him in a house I made of bricks with a slab on top in the border.
We have had toads breeding for two years now..They are so sweet..We watch them leaving the pond of an evening in summer. Its lovely having them around.. |

| | | Re: anyone got toadspawn in their ponds ?? Not always the case but toads often prefer larger water bodies to frogs, thats why more people start threads about frogspawn as its far commoner i small garden ponds. |

Oh my pond may be too small then ....still never give up hope i say and kayleigh i too disturbed one of my big toads a few weeks ago i wanted to move a large log over to my pond so asked my daughter to help me and underneath in the bark chippings there was a little dug out hole ...and in it a hibernating toad ...he was really dark green ...really lovely.. so i put an old piece of weathered timber over him and he stayed there for 3 more weeks ..then one day i checked on him and he was very allert and in hunting mode ....soon after that i found him in my new pond ....he was all on his own poor little chap ...so no chance of any spawn !!!!!....he seems to have gone now so perhaps he will find a mate for next yr and remember my pond ...i do hope so

| | | Re: anyone got toadspawn in their ponds ?? With habitat destruction so high im afraid it may be a more common sight with toads breeding where they can. |

| | | Re: anyone got toadspawn in their ponds ?? Although I can tell the difference between frogs and toads, I would not have a clue how to recognise the spawn.
I have lots of spawn in my pond and assumed it was frogspawn.
Can anyone explain the difference?
Thanks,
Jenny |
