| | | Ready to go Pond ? To late ? Hello all, just a quick question, neighbours a couple of doors up,have filled in there pond,I am fairly certain frogs used to spawn there,as I once had loads of young in my garden, and there`s was the only pond I know nearby.I was thinking about putting in a ready made pond,ie a plastic moulded type or something don`t have a huge garden wich is virtually all patio, apart from a small border,I also have a dog, that needs her space too,so it would have to be relatively small, perhaps three by two foot or simular,if anyone can recommend a mail order place or something to get a ready made pond,or any advice appreciated guess I maybe to late for this years frogs, will they return next year if there pond was not there to spawn in ?
With thanks. |

Or there are these. Hexaponds I would love one of these. I may replace the barrel one day.. Hexapond :: A Unique Collection Of Garden Planters, Ponds & Water Features ::
I also have a bigger pond with toads and newts... |

With thanks Mark. |

With thanks. | Ponds are very easy to dig and pop a butyl liner into. That way you could make it the exact size you need. Basic idea is dig sloping hole, (wildlife entry), pat with sand, pop liner in, fill with water and off you go. Tho you could make pond and make beach type entry for wildlife when dug

| | | Re: Ready to go Pond ? To late ? Thanks galanthus, but as I mentioned I only have about a two foot wide garden border, wich has a low wall type border,I was hoping to scoop this out a little ,put a ready made mould or simular, and have a sloped edge around it for stuff to get in and out.I think I will have to look at whats around. My brother had frogs spawning in old belfast sinks at his Mum in laws,so will see what I can get hold of. |

| | | Re: Ready to go Pond ? To late ? I think the problem with small ponds is depth more than anything - if they're on a patio or in a heat trap you could create a cauldron! Try for a couple of feet if you can. The reverse is the 'complete freeze' if we ever get a serious winter again.

| | | Re: Ready to go Pond ? To late ? We only get frogs in the barrel in spring..As it is on a patio in the sun only the top freezes.(touch wood)..
I have lots of oxygenaters and a few plants in a pot so the water level is higher at one side..The frogs also use the ivy to get in and out..It was only meat to be a water feature imagine my surprise when frogs spawned in it..
If you build a small pond make sure the depth is at least 18" to 2ft. And put lots of Lagarosiphon Major Elodea Crispa in that will keep the water clear.. |
